A Toast to Hosting: Prepping Your Home Bar for the Festive Season

There’s a certain magic that arrives with the cooler months - that quiet hum of anticipation before the first cork is popped and the first guest crosses the threshold. Suddenly, evenings are for candlelight, clinking glasses, and conversations that stretch long after the plates have been cleared. Which can only mean one thing: it’s time to get your home bar ready for the season ahead.

At The Vintage List, we believe the best gatherings begin with the right glass in hand - and yes, it matters what you pour, but it matters even more what you pour it into.

Step One: Take Stock (and Not Just of the Gin)

Start by dusting off your glassware cabinet. Have the coupes been in hiding since that summer soirée? Are there enough wine glasses to see you through a dinner party of six - or, let’s be honest, eight? Hosting season is the perfect excuse to refresh your collection with a few pieces that bring a little extra magic.

Our etched wine glasses and star-patterned coupes have a knack for making even a midweek mulled wine feel like an event. (We like to think of them as small-scale heirlooms in the making - practical, yes, but never boring.)

Step Two: Mix a Signature Drink

Every good host needs a house special. It doesn’t have to be elaborate - a classic champagne cocktail, a winter spritz, or even a sharp, citrusy mocktail will do. The trick is presentation. Serve it in something worthy of the occasion, whether that’s a vintage-inspired coupe or a hand-cut tumbler that catches the firelight just so.

If you’re after something seasonal:
Try this - a splash of sloe gin, topped with prosecco, a twist of orange, and a few cranberries for good measure. It’s festive, unfussy, and looks rather fancy in an etched glass.

Step Three: Set the Scene

A good home bar isn’t about size; it’s about atmosphere. A tray at the ready, a set of linen napkins, and glassware that begs to be used. The finishing touch? A good garnish. Keep your bar stocked with fresh citrus, plenty of ice, and whatever else takes your fancy (recommend a few sprigs of fresh rosemary and mint) - because presentation is half the pleasure.

Step Four: Enjoy It

Once your bar’s in order and your glassware gleaming, all that’s left to do is enjoy it. Because hosting, at its best, isn’t about impressing - it’s about making people feel warm and welcome (though a beautiful coupe does help).

So here’s to the season ahead: to good company, generous pours, and glasses that sparkle every bit as much as the occasion.

TVL's Home Bar Glassware Checklist

If you’re building (or upgrading) your home bar this festive season, consider this your guide to the essentials - the pieces that make every pour feel like an occasion.

Champagne Coupes – For celebrations, toasts, and those spontaneous “just because” bubbles. Our Oval Coupe adds a touch of old-world glamour.

Wine Glasses – A must-have for dinner parties. Choose etched designs to add a touch of artistry to your table.

Tumblers – For whisky, cocktails, or a classic negroni. (They also make a strong case for the humble sparkling water.)

Cocktail Glasses – Whether it’s a martini or something alcohol-free, these are your statement pieces — elegant and a little mischievous.

A Decanter – Optional, but delightful. It turns even an everyday pour into a ritual, and looks wonderful on display.

A few carefully chosen pieces will see you through the season and beyond - timeless, elegant, and always ready for a toast.
